Paul Pogba is of the opinion that an England star should be considered as a contender for the title of the ‘best player in the world’.

The Juventus midfielder and former Manchester United star was asked who he rated as the world’s best while appearing on a stream alongside YouTuber IShowSpeed.

Pogba initially picked Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Junior but then questioned his response and said Erling Haaland and Harry Kane should also be in the conversation.

Haaland has scored a quite staggering 104 goals in 113 appearances since joining Manchester City in 2022, helping Pep Guardiola’s side seal a historic treble in his first season at the Etihad Stadium.

Kane, meanwhile, has 61 goals in 59 games for Bayern Munich and was on course to break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals tally before he left Tottenham just over 12 months ago.

The 31-year-old, who has scored over 400 goals for club and country, is England’s all-time record goalscorer, having surpassed Manchester United legend and Pogba’s former team-mate Wayne Rooney last year.

Kane failed to enhance his reputation during a poor showing at Euro 2024 but Pogba nevertheless believes he is one of the best players on the planet.

Asked who he rates as the best in the world, Pogba told IShowSpeed: ‘Honestly talking? I would give it to Vini. Vini’s good and he’s cold bro.’

Questioning his answer, Pogba hesitated before adding: ‘But… Haaland also deserves it man and Harry Kane has been scoring goals and goals and goals.’

Vinicius finished as runner-up behind Man City midfielder Rodri in the 2024 Ballon d’Or after a brilliant year in which he lifted the Champions League and the La Liga title.

Barcelona and Spain teenage sensation Lamine Yama took home the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony as the best performing player under the age of 21.

Pogba concurs that Yamal, 17, is the ‘best young player in the world’, adding on the stream: ‘He is cold.

‘Right now he’s killing it, at the Euros he had games and he was killing it. He’s so young and he won it. He’s the best young player in the world.

‘Give him a few more months and can you imagine if he won the Champions League this year? He’s cold bro. He’s 17, he still has homework!’

After being named the best men’s player in the world for the first time, Rodri said: ‘A very special day for me, my family and my country.

‘Today is not a victory for me, it is for Spanish football, for so many players who have not won it and have deserved it, like [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi [Hernandez], Iker [Casillas], Sergio Busquets, so many others.

‘It is for Spanish football and for the figure of the midfielder.’

Kane was also at the ceremony to pick up the Gerd Muller Trophy which he shared with Kylian Mbappe after scoring the most goals across the year.

‘Thank you to my club Bayern Munich, all my staff, team-mates, for helping me score all the goals I scored’, said the England captain.

‘It’s an honour to take this award from a club legend [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge] – thank you very much.’

Kane’s poor form at Euro 2024 led to concerns over his future as an England player but he has looked back to his best this season, scoring 17 goals in 14 games and bagging three hat-tricks.

His goals have helped Bayern Munich open up a three-point lead at the top of the table as Vincent Kompany looks to win the Bundesliga in his first season at the club.
